Travel Skit
For this project we spent over a month in a small group of 4-5 creating Spanish skits. We had several short, fun practice skits before writing the official one. Each group was assigned a category of vocabulary to focus on, along with several other requirements like number of lines per person. The categories of vocabulary included travel, restaurant, airport, and locations. Working in our groups we wrote an original skit in Spanish and rehearsed the blocking of the skits. It was required that we memorize our lines and include props to enhance the performance. My group wrote our skit about three tourists who travel to the city of Madrid, Spain, and find themselves on a scavenger hunt around the city visiting many historic monuments and sites. Throughout the day they run into the same local everywhere they go, who pretends he does not know them.
This project was really fun. It was challenging learning to speak and act in Spanish in front of an audience. I've always struggled with public speaking, so for me this was an opportunity to improve at that. When you have to write a script with lines you're going to say, you learn how to make sentences within your ability level. Throughout the process we kept having to tweak the plot and the lines because we realized we couldn't actually say what we wanted to say. I learned how to collaborate in a group while speaking a different language, which made it more challenging. This project really helped me gain a lot of confidence.
