Rocket ReflectionWritten to Heerschap:
Our rocket had several ideas that failed. I liked the balloon idea, I just think the way we attached it to the rocket was a failure. Our music was a fail because I didn’t have the time to get it to work when we launched our rocket. Duct taping our balloon to the nosecone didn’t work because it messed with the weight of everything. Exhibition was a lot of fun but I think things could have been explained a bit better once we got there. It was also a really windy and cold evening. The wind messed up our balloon and strings. The balloon popped the second time we tried to launch. Putting glitter on our nose cone didn’t end up working, we had to take most of it off to get the strings and balloon attached. Our rocket worked, just not with the balloon. If we could build the rocket again, I would make a bigger chamber to begin with for the parachute so we wouldn’t have to add half a bottle in the middle. I would also come up with a more effective and lightweight nosecone that was more durable for attaching the balloon. I would still use the balloon idea, but try it in our test launches. A lot more glitter and pink!!! I would steal these ideas from other rockets. I would make it bigger and taller. If we could make it work with our balloon, I would probably steal some of the “parachute” ideas like the whirlybird thing or something, just because I don’t know if our parachute would have deployed. The exhibition could be better with maybe more flexibility on the day, just so that depending on the weather it could be switched. Tell everyone to bring jackets (including yourself). It would be nice to have a better sense of time, so in case we want people to come they don’t have to stay the whole time. Overall I think it was fun. Next time maybe teach us a little more about rockets and building before we start, because I know several kids besides my group did things wrong because we didn’t know what we were doing or knew nothing about rockets. We should have at least a week or more extra building time on rockets so some students who want to attempt harder ideas can, and so we can do more test flights. This was a great project and a lot of fun. Maybe it would be better to mix the poster and the building like with the masks. |
